Pre-Kindergarten (SRDLP)
WHES offers a five day a week, two-hour and thirty five minute Pre-K program, packed with learning using sound, movement, stories, and outdoor play. Children develop oral language skills through sharing and problem solving skills which we practice using our Second Step curriculum.

The SRLDP program is designed to get your child ready for Kindergarten. Our goal is to have your children know the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, as well as their numbers to 10 by the end of the year. Your child will also be learning how to read, write and follow school rules. Of course, these activities will take place in an engaging, hands-on atmosphere. We teach these skills through arts and crafts, physical education, penmanship practice and much, much more.

Preschool Mixed (PSM)
Our Preschool Mixed class is a special day class for children with unique needs. Children are placed in the PSM class as per their Individual Education Plan in accordance with Least Restrictive Environment guidelines.

Children with special education eligibilities, ages 3-5, attend our 4 day, 2 hour 20 minute program in either the AM or PM session. Our program offers the opportunity to learn through direct instruction, play, music and a variety of activity centers.

Gifted and Talented Education Program (G.A.T.E)

WHES encourges students to be creative and innovative leaders. Under legislation AB 2313, each teacher designs their own plan implemented to motivate and challenge children who are identified(students are initially tested for G.A.T.E. in the 2nd grade) as well as children who are in the referral and screening process. G.A.T.E. students work in clusters and children who are not identified can participate in flexible groups within the classroom. Previous projects undertaken by students in the G.A.T.E. program include creating and publishing our very own school newspaper, The Condor Speaks, writing and performing a podcast using Garage Band, and historical research projects.
